FOOD FOOD FOOD! (a rant, sort of)

Grrr! Some of you may know my birthday is coming up soon..we are in Red Robin's birthday club and each year we get a free burger for our birthday by bringing in the printed off e-mail from them. Well, I got mine today and decided to look up just how many calories I am getting! You won't find it on Red Robin's website...at least i didn't find it there. I looked it up on Calorie King.com I decided I ain't eating there! My coupon is printed but holy cow! The calorie content even on their so called trim food is horrendous! My favorite Shroom Burger: 971 calories, The Croissant BLTA: 726, Lighten Up Grilled Turkey (which you would think wouldn't be too bad): 704 calories. I suppose I could eat half which is what I normally do anyways! But then there is the "Bottomless fries" temptation that is hard for me to resist...and being my birthday...they give me a sundae...312 calories. I didn't even list the fat content on these to save you from that horror! Most Ben and Jerry's ice cream has less calories and fat then Red Robin's birthday sundae! So if I ate there--I would have to starve myself the whole day...not good. And I would feel miserable for the next several days..also not good. Now I will have to break the news to David. I think he will get over it when I tell him it is best for both of us. :-) There is also the financial aspect of all this...we end up buying two burgers since there is two of us and spending $10-$20 all for a "free" burger.

  1. lol...dontcha just hate the scam of it all? there aint nothin that's for free!! even if the burger WAS truly free and you had to pay little or nothing, you still get a buttload (literally!!) of CALORIES with it!!

i'm proud of you for thinkin thru this and weighing it all out. do what you know is best for you now, even tho you DO deserve something special for your bday! maybe next year when you're a sizzlin calorie burnin machine you can enjoy some "free calories" at Red Robin with no guilt :)

  2. It doesn't say anyplace on it that you have to purchase another meal or anything. I would have to leave a tip though so I guess it still is NOT free LOL! And they figure when you have a coupon like that or a gift card, you spend MORE then it is for. So yeah--SCAM! LOL!

  3. How about their Lettuce wrap your burger? It has lettuce instead of a bun and comes with a salad on the side instead of fries. Then you can split the sundae. Of course, skip the hi calorie add-ons like Mayo (EVIL, EVIL MAYO), and opt for a light dressing on the salad.

They also have wraps and salads which make good choices.

And if it's not a B1G1F coupon, you and David can order one meal and split it and then split the sundae. Maybe just order an extra side dish. Have water to drink and you've got yourself a really inexpensive dinner out.
